Shrinking Pants

I’m taking a few minutes out of the holiday festivities to commiserate with anyone who has the same problem I do: shrinking pants.

Suddenly, I have to do that suck-in thing just to zip them up. And then I do “squats” in order to make breathing room. My pants have shrunk–argh!

Our dryer must be overheating or something. There’s just no other explanation. Anyone else have dryers that shrink your clothes around the holidays?

Reality Addiction

I’ll admit it, I’m pretty much a slacker when it comes to being on top of the “in” TV shows. Instead of paying for cable, I buy books. Lots of books. But since we got Netflix–a month or so ago–I’ve been unable to resist adding certain reality shows to my queue. I’d heard about these shows, never seen them, and have one word to describe what I think of them: ADDICTING.

Who knew that Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica was so entertaining? Well, maybe you did since it’s a few years old, but still. I’m a newbie watcher and so excited! The dangerous thing about having the DVDs in front of me, is that I can’t stop watching. Seasons of the show are sitting in front of me, calling to me, and I think to myself, “Hit the pause button. Watch the rest later. After all, it’s been hours! Is this really how you want to spend your morning?”

My answer: “Uh, yes.” (I do feel guilty about it, okay? Well, only slightly, but that counts.)

Another reality show I’ve indulged in recently is Laguna Beach. It was so addicting I had to view the episodes back to back. What is it about reality TV that is just so good? Maybe it’s catching someone’s life right in the moment and getting to watch their reality, their life (especially the private stuff you’d normally keep to yourself!).

I’ve also read some really cool reality books. Again, for me, the particularly engaging part is watching their life as it happens. It’s like getting the inside scoop.  Here are the ones I’ve read: American Idle by Alesia Holliday, Adios to My Old Life by Caridad Ferrer, Reality Chick by Lauren Barnholdt, and Bachelorette #1 by Jennifer O’Connell. I’ve also heard of (and still need to read) As Seen on TV by Sarah Mlynowski (I adored her novel, Bras & Broomsticks).

For me, reality is addicting. What do you think of it? What are your faves? Would you ever BE on a reality show?
