Ever have one of those moments where you just CAN’T decide what to read next? Nothing’s “feeling” quite right? That’s how I felt last week. Sure, some books sounded good, some had cute covers…but I wanted some kind of guarantee that it’d be worthwhile before I committed my time to a specific book.
My solution? I asked other YA authors for recommendations on an engaging read. This is where I got the idea to read Cut by Patricia McCormick.
I flew through this book–and here’s the shocker: it didn’t even have a love interest. That’s right, no romance, no boy meets girl, and it still hooked me. This YA fiction novel is about a teen named Callie whose parents send her to a psychiatric facility called Sea Pines (Callie and her Group call it Sick Minds). Each girl in Callie’s Group at Sick Minds has a different issue she’s dealing with. Callie’s problem is that she cuts herself, can’t seem to stop, and doesn’t know why.
This book gave such an interesting inside look at huge problems teens deal with, how they can get help for it, and how hey can learn they’re not alone. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it if you’re looking for something to read.
Any good books you’ve read lately? Please share!
Sounds great, Susan. I rely on recommendations a lot but sometimes just like to browse the bookshelves and see what catches my eye. I discovered Larissa Ione this way and she’s now one of my favorite paranormal romance authors. I’m glad you liked Cut even though it didn’t have romance in it.
Omnivore’s Dilemma. Interesting stuff.
What?! No love interest? And you still liked it? It MUST be good.
One way that I find books to read is by checking best seller lists periodically and read reviews on them (ususlly at Amazon!). Anything that appeals to me I put on hold at the library. That way I have I have an interesting variety of books popping up at different times. Any YA that I read is recommended by you:)
Anthony’s a big fan of Patricia Mccormicks books. It must be good.
